The Fall Guy Premiere: Custom Embroidered Jackets by Mr. Stitch

We had the chance to create custom embroidery for jackets made for The Fall Guy movie premiere. Seeing Ryan Gosling wearing one of the finished jackets at the film’s 2024 SXSW premiere made this a particularly memorable project for our Sherman Oaks shop.

A Closer Look at The Fall Guy Premiere Jacket

The red varsity jacket became part of Ryan Gosling’s premiere look for The Fall Guy. Esquire identified the base garment as Levi’s Laydown Collar Raglan Varsity Jacket and reported that Levi’s worked with Gosling’s longtime stylist, Mark Avery, on customized jackets for the premiere and press tour.

Mr. Stitch’s part of the project was the custom embroidery on the jackets. For us, that is the part worth highlighting: taking an existing garment and adding the embroidery needed for a finished piece that would be worn at a major film premiere.

Custom Embroidery for a Premiere Wardrobe

A varsity jacket already gives embroidery a natural place to work. Lettering, names and graphic elements can become part of the garment itself instead of looking like a separate flat print. The size, placement and artwork still have to make sense for the jacket being used.

That becomes especially important for wardrobe and styling projects, where the embroidery has to support an existing look rather than compete with it. In this case, the red jacket was already a strong part of the outfit, and the custom details helped connect it directly to The Fall Guy.

Hollywood Embroidery Work From Our Sherman Oaks Shop

Being based in Sherman Oaks puts us close to the Los Angeles film and television industry, and over the years we have worked with costume designers, stylists and production teams on a range of projects. That work has included films, television shows, costume pieces, patches, jackets and other production-related embroidery.

Production work can be very different from a standard company-logo order. Sometimes the garment is already selected, the artwork has to fit a very specific placement, or the wardrobe team is working around a production schedule. Having a local Los Angeles embroidery shop gives teams somewhere they can bring the actual piece, review the details and work through what is possible.

The Jacket Got Attention Beyond the Premiere

The jacket also caught the attention of fashion media. Esquire covered the look after the premiere and identified the original red Levi’s varsity jacket, while noting that Gosling’s version had been customized for The Fall Guy premiere and press tour.

For us, the interesting part is seeing a project that came through the shop become part of a premiere look that people were talking about afterward.
