The Most Common Embroidery Mistakes

Updated: 1 day ago

Embroidery is a space that allows creativity to thrive! There are so many things that can be accomplished with embroidery. Many designs and thread colors allow for ideas to shine. There are rules to keep in mind when designing something for embroidery. Here are some tips to help you out!

  1. Sizing

Keep in mind that sizing matters. Embroidery can capture details of intricate designs, but only at the right size. The more intricate the design is, the bigger it will have to be. This is because threads can only be so small. Unlike other art tools that can be manipulated to a smaller size, threads can not.

  1. Details

Details include things such as shading, colors, small pieces, color gradients, layers, and more. Color gradients can not be done in embroidery. Colors can be done in sections rather than gradients.

  1. Ability

One of the greatest things about embroidery is how it can be placed on so many things. There are some limitations to keep in mind. These limitations come in the form of what I call “from scratch” designs. What does that mean? Well, certain things can be done only when an item is made “from scratch.” Oftentimes, customers inquire about certain hat placements (such as over/under the bill) or on embroidery down the full length of the long sleeve.
