A Kind Stranger Walks Into Our Sherman Oaks Embroidery Shop
Updated: Sep 7
Every project that comes into Mr. Stitch has a story behind it, and this one happened to involve the stage. Rick Simone-Friedland reached out to our Sherman Oaks shop with an embroidery idea connected to his one-man show, Kind Stranger…a memory play.
The request was simple: add the show title to the back of burgundy jackets that would become part of this special theater project.

Custom Embroidery for Kind Stranger
Rick Simone-Friedland came to Mr. Stitch with the idea of embroidering the Kind Stranger title across the back of several jackets. It was a straightforward design, but the lettering and color needed to feel right for the production.
Kind Stranger…a memory play is a one-man show about playwright Tennessee Williams, based on his Memoirs. Rick Simone-Friedland conceived and performs the show, with Steven Simone-Friedland adapting and directing it for the stage.
We were happy to help create something connected to the production. Personalized jackets like these can also become a nice keepsake for the people involved in bringing a show to life.
From Los Angeles to the Dream Up Festival in New York
The production later headed to New York, where it was presented as part of the 2025 Dream Up Festival at Theater for the New City. Performances ran from August 24 through September 3.
It is always fun for us to see something embroidered here in Sherman Oaks travel with a project somewhere completely different.

Why the Orange Thread Worked
The orange thread was a great choice against the burgundy fabric. There is enough contrast for the Kind Stranger lettering to stand out, while the two colors still feel warm and connected rather than fighting each other.

We loved getting a small part in this project from our side of the stage. Congratulations to Rick, Steven and the Kind Stranger team on bringing the show from Los Angeles to New York.
If you have jackets, cast gifts or another custom piece for a theater, film or creative project, bring the idea into our Sherman Oaks shop or send us your artwork and details.
