Custom Embroidered Outdoor Pillows for Outer

We usually talk about embroidery on hats, jackets and shirts, but every once in a while a project comes through the shop that takes us somewhere completely different. This time, it was outdoor pillows for Outer.

Outer reached out to us to embroider its branding onto pillowcases for an outdoor furniture display. Since Outer is also based in Los Angeles, it was especially nice to see a local collaboration travel well beyond California.

From Our Sherman Oaks Shop to Palm Beach

We embroidered the pillowcases here in the Los Angeles area, but the finished pieces ended up all the way across the country in Palm Beach, Florida. Seeing work from our Sherman Oaks shop sitting in the middle of an outdoor furniture showcase was pretty cool.

What I like about the finished setup is that the embroidery does not feel like a giant advertisement. Outer’s logo is easy to spot, but the pillows still look like they belong with the furniture and the rest of the display.

A Different Way to Use Custom Embroidery

This project is a good reminder that embroidery does not have to stop at apparel. If the item can be properly accessed and the material works for embroidery, branded details can sometimes be added to décor, display pieces and other custom items too.

For something like these pillows, I would keep the design fairly straightforward. You want the logo to be recognizable from across the seating area, and the thread color needs enough contrast against the fabric to stay visible without overpowering everything around it.

Why the Outer Project Worked So Well

The idea was simple: take Outer’s existing branding and work it into something that was already part of the seating display. There was no need to add a huge graphic or make the pillow compete with the furniture.

Outer currently sells outdoor throw pillows as part of its furniture collection, so cushions and pillows are already a natural part of how the company builds an outdoor space. Adding embroidery to the pieces for this project let the branding live directly inside that setup.
